Choosing an English Labrador is really two decisions: the line, and the breeder behind it. The line you can learn in five minutes — English Labs are the stockier, calmer bench type. The breeder takes real vetting: health testing on both parents you can verify, access to the dams and sires, guarantee terms in writing, and honest answers about which puppies suit which homes. This page gives you the checklist we’d use ourselves — then shows you exactly how our program measures against it.
English and American Labradors are one breed — the AKC recognizes a single Labrador Retriever. The names describe two breeding traditions: English (show/bench) lines are stockier and blockier, with a broad head, deep chest, otter tail, and a calmer, steadier temperament that settles indoors. American (field) lines are leaner, longer-legged, and higher-drive, bred for hunting and field trials.
Neither is “better” — they’re built for different lives. For most families wanting a calm house companion, English lines are the easier fit, and they’re all we breed.

English Labrador breeders vary enormously, and the breeder matters more than the line. Here’s what to demand from any program — including ours — before you put a deposit anywhere:
OFA hips and elbows (Excellent, Good, and Fair all pass), an eye certification, and a DNA panel covering Labrador conditions — EIC, CNM, PRA-prcd among them. Ask for the actual certificates, not a “vet checked” reassurance — registration papers record ancestry, not health.
Meet the mother at minimum. See where the dogs live. A breeder’s facility and their dams’ temperaments tell you more than any website.
Read what’s actually covered, for how long, and what voids it.
How are puppies evaluated, at what age, with what protocol? “Sweet and playful” is not an evaluation.
A good breeder asks about your household and steers you to the right puppy — or tells you when a litter isn’t the right fit.
For 15 years we’ve bred White English Labradors from European and American lines on our Ozarks property — every puppy raised here, by us. Every dam and sire is health-tested with the certificates published on their profile pages (and summarized on our health-testing page), litters are planned so no tested condition can produce an affected puppy, training runs through our Wagology programs, and every puppy carries our 5-year full replacement guarantee against genetic defects — in writing, before your deposit. Visits are open: come in person, or point our camera anywhere on a video call.
Winter’s card is on purpose: a carrier published openly, with the pairing rule that protects every puppy, is what honest testing actually looks like. Breeders who show you only perfect results usually aren’t showing you everything.
